Chartered Physiotherapist specialising in Musculoskeletal Injuries and Rehabilitation

Who am I?

I am a Chartered Physiotherapist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. I graduated from the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, in 1991 and moved to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital in 1992. Since qualification I have worked for the NHS in various local hospitals, GP surgeries, Clinical Education and other Private Practices. I opened my own physiotherapy practice and sports injury clinic in Christchurch in 2003.

Where I work:

I have a home-based clinic in Friars Cliff, Christchurch. I see most patients here in the clinic, but also carry out home visit appointments, available for those unable to travel to me from the local area.

What I do:

Assessment is the most important aspect of any Physiotherapy appointment in my view. Understanding the patient’s pain, functional problems and outcome required is key, whether it is back to high level competitive sport or simply to walk to the bathroom unaided. Each factor is as important to the individual as the next. Functional outcome and understanding the problems presenting is discussed and goals for recovery through hands-on treatment, self-management or on-going need for input is decided between us.

What conditions I may see:

This varies hugely each day and my vast clinical background is often drawn upon for the more obscure, but typically the following problems arise:

  • Lower back pain

  • Neck pain

  • Whiplash and Headaches

  • Muscle / Tendons / Ligament sprains and strains

  • Overuse injuries

  • Arthritis and other joint problems

  • Rehabilitation following joint replacement / fracture or trauma

  • Posture and movement control

  • Muscle weakness

  • Chronic neurological conditions such as CVA / Motor Neurone Disease / Parkinson’s, where ongoing rehabilitation is required

  • Exercise programmes – strength and conditioning for specific areas

  • General aches and pains caused by activities of daily life and stress

How you might be treated:

Treatments may include:

  • Manual therapy-graded joint mobilisation, manipulation massage and soft tissue techniques

  • Electrotherapy-ultrasound, inter-ferential therapy and muscle stimulation

  • Acupuncture

  • Exercise programmes

  • Advice on back and neck care, posture, ergonomics and movement control

All of my treatments are carried out with understanding, care, support and time given to reassure and help you understand and manage the problems you are are presented with.
